Without the protection of a union contract, you are at the mercy of your employer.

Our union members receive a fair wage negotiated by Local 101 and voted on for approval by the members. We receive a negotiated rate increase annually. Why leave the decision of your yearly wage increase up to a company that is looking for every measurable way to keep costs down? As an organization that has been around for over 115 years, we know what your skill sets are worth. Becoming a member of the union you will gain rights under the law that you do not have as an individual.

Why wait until you’re about to retire to realize that you and your family may have to live solely on social security if it still exists? Retirement can seem so far away at times but let’s face the truth, with every work season completed the next one always seems to go by quicker than before. Let’s say retirement is 5 to 10 or even 30 years down the road, what will the social security benefit look like then? Although 401K and ESOP plans are common means for retirement, are they sufficient enough to last through your years of retirement? Under our master agreements, the retirement is paid for fully by the contractor. Since the inception of Local 101’s Pension Fund, it has remained at the highest rating possible. WORK OPPORTUNITIES

under the master agreements

Local 101 operates more than the earthmovers and the cranes. We also cover equipment mechanics and equipment rental companies. There is also a wide range of career fields as a stationary engineer taking care of major mechanical components within commercial buildings like hospitals and maintenance in manufacturing facilities. Stationary engineers, unlike construction engineers, often work full time, year-round, undeterred by poor weather. On the aggregate side of the construction industry, we operate equipment at various sand plants and (quarries in Missouri and Kansas. At the sand plants, we also run the dredge units and tugboats on the Missouri River. When it comes to concrete and asphalt, Operating Engineers have it covered from making it to paving it. Local 101 also has full-time maintenance agreements at water treatment facilities and power plants generally working year-round. Operating Engineers construct a vast majority of wind farms along with repairs on wind farms in both Kansas and Missouri.

Local 101 is eager to match qualified operators with union-signatory employers that have agreed to a binding contract that provides the above pay and benefits. Local 101 is equally eager to help operators bargain with their current non-union-signatory employer to reach an agreement that strives to meet these same goals.
